Dinokeng is the closest experience of the wild open plains of Africa to Jo’burg and Pretoria. A large area of wild African landscape in the northeast of Gauteng province, Dinokeng encompasses over 200 000 hectares with some 275 visitor attractions - including game viewing, restaurants, hiking, birding and adventure and conferencing facilities.
In the north of Dinokeng a large game reserve is being established with the support of the Gauteng Provincial Government, with free-roaming lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and antelope. Numerous private lodges are located within this reserve.
The area has a particularly strong selection of venues and establishments for meetings, incentive trips and special events – many offering cultural activities which enable visitors to experience the warmth and creativity of local people, and to give back to the community. There are five-star lodges offering all the trimmings of the luxury safari experience, through to simpler accommodation for groups of learners.
The quaint Victorian mining village of Cullinan offers an extraordinary slice of history. The Cullinan Diamond Mine on the edge of the village became world-famous in 1905 when the world’s largest rough gem-quality diamond was exposed; it now takes pride amongst the British crown jewels.
Take time to wander along the charming Avenue lined with jacaranda and oak trees, delightful shops and galleries housed in original buildings, and vibrant restaurants. Visitors can also admire the beautiful stone church that was designed by Sir Herbert Baker.
Dinokeng can be reached either from the N1 (north of Pretoria/Tshwane) or the N4 (north-east of Pretoria/Tshwane). Please check the website for detailed listings of accommodation establishments and attractions suitable for inclusion in tour, conference and special event itineraries.
