The Iziko South African Museum (ISAM) houses more than one and a half million specimens of scientific importance ranging from 700-million-year-old fossils to insects and fish caught last week. The ecology of dinosaurs, the evolution of birds and hypotheses regarding the extinction of dinosaurs as well as actual dinosaur displays can be seen in the permanent exhibition entitled African Dinosaurs.

The Iziko Planetarium (in the ISAM building) is a celestial theatre in the round using the Minolta star machine and multiple projectors. This recreates the night sky and transports the audience through the wonders of the universe.
