The Iziko South African National Gallery (ISANG) is regarded as a premier art site. ISANG evolved from an initial bequest of 45 paintings by Thomas Butterworth Bayley in 1871, to its current permanent collection with wonderful examples of South Africana, African and Western European art.

Temporary curated exhibitions draw on the permanent collection of historic and contemporary paintings and sculpture, works on paper, photography, new media and indigenous traditional art and artefacts. This programme is complemented by a selection of externally curated themed exhibitions from around the country and abroad, offering a dynamic programme for both local and foreign audiences.
