Matsamo’s commitment to excellence in tourism has earned this little African Village, near the Kruger National Park, the honour as an overall winner in South Africa of the Imvelo Responsible Tourism Award and a 4-star rating by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.

Trained guides walk and talk visitors through Swazi culture and the significance of traditions and customs; or visitors can wander on their own through the village, join villagers in their daily activities, watch the children play or go along to take the cattle to the grazing fields.

African folk music is a must see at Matsamo and villagers will invite visitors to join in the fun. Performances are available throughout the day. At night music and dance are combined with story-telling, dinner with traditional food and a lot more.

Accommodation is in traditional time-honoured hives in the village.

Adjustments have been made here and there for comfort, including airconditioners and bathrooms in every hive. The whole design continues to reflect the Swazi traditions and customs. The resort was designed and built, applying the indigenous and artistic knowledge and skills of the Swazi people.

The “African Theatre” restaurant offers wonderful buffet lunches and breakfasts and has a seating capacity for 300 people. The 50- seat restaurant, Ekaya, serves à la carte meals and doubles up as a conference room. At the arts and crafts shop, crafters from the area market their products.

While maintaining the highest level of professionalism, service is rendered with African excellence from the heart. The food, the folk music and dance and the atmosphere all fuse together into a unique experience – African quality at its best. Matsamo is a partnership between visitors and the villagers, ensuring the sustainability of the village. It is a wonderful experience for visitors.
