Nederburg is South Africa’s most widely recognised winery, loved by specialist collectors, connoisseurs and those who relish the everyday pleasure of good wine. Leave the road, enter the gates and drive up the pathway to a world that seamlessly celebrates the classical and the contemporary, side by side. Indulge in a history over two centuries long, amidst some of the most exciting innovations in winemaking today. Pride of place goes to the manor house, completed in 1800 by Nederburg’s founder Philippus Wolvaart, who was granted 49 hectares of land in 1791 by the Governor of the Cape. Within six years he was making wine and then set about creating a fine home for his family. A beautiful example of Cape Dutch vernacular architecture, it is listed as a national heritage site and has been lovingly restored and furnished with Cape antiques. The homestead forms the centrepiece of the farm with a magnificent view of the dramatic Drakenstein Mountains.
Made with meticulous attention to detail, precision, care and patience, Nederburg wines continue the legacy begun in the 18th century. Wine enriches many occasions, even more so when it can be enjoyed at its source, our winery home, so we invite you here to experience all we have to offer. We have a range of tasting facilities, catering to small and large groups in stylish but comfortable surroundings, where our current vintage wines can be sampled, from the popular to the rare. Try our tasty picnic baskets in summer, filled to the brim with home-made delicacies paired with our refreshingly delicious wines and served in our gorgeous gardens. Also offered are mezze platters in our beautifully appointed tasting complex. Witness how wine is made at Nederburg and explore the old and the new. Visit the cellars and see the remains of our original facilities built at the end of the 18th century. Experience the quiet tranquil darkness of our maturation facility, where our wines age under optimal conditions. Come to the Old Cellar, our historical centre, where we exhibit fascinating documents, correspondence, pictures and artifacts that help to tell the story of some of the personalities who have shaped Nederburg. The exhibition makes it easy for guests to follow our path from 1791 to today.
