Oliewenhuis Art Museum was officially opened as a satellite of the National Museum in 1989. The Art Museum holds in trust a historical and contemporary collection of South African art and continually expands its collection of works by contemporary South African artists.
Oliewenhuis Art Museum is situated within 12 hectares of natural vegetation and is surrounded by a beautiful garden complemented by the African Carousel, a working carousel with 16 original artworks, and the Sculpture Park, comprising 17 sculptures by various South African sculptors. The Cement and Mosaic Project consists of five functional sculptures created by 14 unemployed Mangaung artists. The underground Reservoir in the Museum garden is a unique exhibition space allowing Oliewenhuis to extend its activities.
The Terrace Restaurant serves light meals and delicacies. Guided tours are offered to groups and those who have special needs.
